The Cherry Lounge

A Visit From Glenn

(The picture opens up at The Cherry Lounge. Staggered about are tables, chairs and an old juke box in the corner. The lights are dim and a haze of smoke hangs calmly over the bar. A few waitresses finish up the last work on a few tables, as Joe Seward and Randall Reese sit at the very corner of the bar)

(Randall is smoking his usual C.A.O. Knoxville, and sipping away on a Coors Light. Joe is working on a malt Scotch while enjoying a Robosto Fuente Short Story)

(The camera joins their conversation)

Joe - So, Judy, how she be?

Randall - Doing great as always. She keeps the whole family in line.

Joe - Why ain't I surprised?

(Randall gives a smile before puffing away on his C.A.O.)

Joe - How be Roman?

Randall - Doing very well also. He is off in Atlanta for business.

Joe - And Jill?

Randall - I'm sure shes just closed the shop. Yes, shes doing well.

Joe - I suppose I'll ask bout your youngest, Glenn.

Randall - Oh yeah, you cant forget Glenn. He's huge Joe.

Joe - Ya mentioned that the last time we talked.

Randall - Oh yeah, hes trying out for some wrestling organization later in May.

Joe - Well, I'm sure the boy will do well.

(Joe puffs away on his cigar while Randall drinks the last of his Coors Light)

Randall - Yeah, Joe, I'm proud of all my children, Jill, Roman, and Glenn, they were all good kids.

Joe - And they still be good kids now.

Randall - Hey, miss!

Bartender - Yes.

Randall - I'll take another Coors Light sweetheart.

Bartender - Anything for you sir?

Joe - Naw, I be good, thanks.

(Joe takes a puff of his cigar)

Randall - I've been telling Glenn he needs to get hitched up with a woman like that.

Joe - She sure be a honey. Wonder what a nice gal like that be doin' in an old place like this now here.

Randall - Tough to say.

Bartender - There you go sir, Coors Light!

Randall - Thank you sweet heart.

(Randall hands a handsome tip to the bartender)

Bartender - Thanks a lot!

Randall - Oh you deserve it.

Bartender - I'm glad customers like you guys still exist.

Joe - Aw, yeah, there be a few of us around.

Bartender - Let me know if you guys need anything.

Randall - We will.

(The bartender turns and walks off. She is a calm young woman, yet, she reflects the mind of a restless dreamer, Despite being tired after a night of work, she remains beautiful)

Randall - Do you have Mirror on Sunday at the PPV?

Joe - Yeah, Mirror, a member of the UWA hall of fame too. How do ya like that? I gots me a match against a legendary guy. And, Sweet Merciful Lord, my Hardcore Title is on the line. This be an excellent opportunity ta make myself known. If I can beat Mirror, surely I will be a Hardcore Legend. It ain't gonna be easy, I was already in the ring with him once. Mirror be very tough indeed.

Randall - I don't even want to imagine a guy like that....

Joe - (Finishing a draw from his cigar) Member that time we a pulled them old hay bale deals together, and made us a ring in the ol' Swanson barn?

Randall - (Sipping his Coors Light) Oh yes I do. First match was me and that Train fella.

Joe - You whopped him a good one too.

Randall - The best clothesline in all of backyard history. I did it!

Joe - Hell, Randall, we was a doin' backyard long before wrastlin' was popular.

(Joe and Randall laugh as they share their memories. They continue to sip on their alcohol and take healthy draws from their cigars)

(The door at the front of The Cherry Lounge opens. In walks a 610, 315lbs. Glenn Reese, bald with a slight trace of facial hair. Dressed in jeans and a black Harley-Davidson shirt, the gigantic trucker reflects the mass of the rigs he operates. Glenn's muscular physique, make the few people left in The Cherry Lounge double take with interest and alarm)

(Joe and Randall are so engrossed in their memories, they are the only ones who neglect to see the massive Glenn walking towards them)

Glenn - Hey dad. Hey Joe.

(Joe and Glen halt their conversation at the sound of Glenn's deep voice)

Joe - Sweet Merciful Lord! Your bigger than I member. Four years is too long a time!

(Joe stands and gives Glenn a handshake. By most standards, Joe is considered a big guy. However, Glenn stands a little taller and wider than ol Joe)

Randall - When did you get home? It is six hours ya know?

(Joe sits back down)

Glenn - Got here about an hour ago. I stopped and saw mom first. She told me you guys were here. And I couldn't pass up an opportunity to see ol' Joe. Four years it has been man.

Joe - Too damn long!

(Joe takes a draw from his cigar)

Randall - Sit down son, have a beer,

Glenn - That sounds good.

(Randall puffs away on his C.A.O.)

(The bartender walks over. Her curiosity more than her job, attracts her over to Glenn)

Bartender - Hey muscles, what will you have?

Glenn - Me?

Bartender - No the other giant guy behind you!

Glenn - Okay, you got me! You guys serve Rolling Rock?

Bartender - For you gorgeous we serve anything.

Glenn - I'll take one.

Bartender - Comin' right up.

(Glenn takes a seat next to his father with a grin on his face)

Randall - I was just telling Joe about how you need a nice young woman like that.

Joe - She be a sweetie Glenn. A real flower. I think you two would look mighty good now here.

Glenn - Relax guys, I just met her. But she is cute.

(The cute bartender comes back, this time with her blonde hair down. It is obvious she is tying to make an impression on the young Glenn)

Bartender - Rolling Rock sir.

Glenn - Thanks, oh and call me Glenn.

Bartender - Okay, Glenn, you call me Krystal.

Glenn - Hi Krystal.

Krystal - Hi Glenn.

(A moment of silence follows)

Krystal - This one is on the house.

Glenn - Thanks

Krystal - But only under one condition.

Joe - Which be?

Krystal - This guy here has to talk to me for the rest of the night.

(Joe and Randall smile)

Glenn - I think I can handle that, Krystal.

Krystal - Good! Me too, Glenn.

(Krystal gives a smile as she goes about her work behind the bar. As the haze of smoke hangs in The Cherry Lounge, Joe, Randall, and Glenn continue to enjoy a very young night)
